Mental Health

Seeking support and guidance is a common part of being human and is sometimes needed to overcome difficulties. We aim to provide a confidential, professional and welcoming service that is paired with a non-judgemental, containing environment where trust and compassion can be valued and developed.

Sutton Coldfield Counselling is aimed at adults and adolescents. Whether the purpose of therapy is learning more about yourself and your circumstances through personal discovery, gaining strategies to help with change or a different intention entirely, we can work collaboratively towards experiencing wellbeing. Not all therapy is about specific, labelled difficulties but some of the areas that we do manage in therapy are detailed below:

Why Psychologists?

As there are a number of mental health professionals available, it can sometimes be difficult to determine the qualifications, skills and experience of a particular type of practitioner when looking for a therapist.  The details below aim to clarify the role of the clinical and counselling psychologist.

  • All of our practitioners are qualified as Counselling or Clinical Psychologists.
  • This means that they have engaged in at least three years intensive post-graduate training, specifically focussing on mental health and wellbeing.
  • Psychologists will have training and experience in multiple clinical approaches, allowing them to tailor spoken therapy to the specific needs of the individual.
  • Consultant Psychologists are those that have achieved the highest level of experience.
  • All psychologists have to be registered with a regulatory body (HCPC) to govern their practice and ensure that they are held accountable for safe and responsible practice.
  • All psychologists have to engage in regular clinical supervision. This is a process that allows them to reflect and discuss aspects of their work with other qualified psychologists.
  • All psychologists have to engage in annual CPD (continuing professional development) to ensure that they have the most up-to-date theory and clinical practice.
  • All psychologists have to evidence that they are trained in the psychological approaches that they are practising.
  • Most psychologists will have experience of working within the NHS as well as private practice.
